The issue is that internal_cache is NULL. It’s declared a few lines above,
outside the function, as:

BTW, I tried to reproduce with a similar system (Gentoo Linux, AMD64)
but could not. The main difference that I see is that I've got GCC
3.4.6, and you have 4.1.2. IIRC -fstrict-aliasing is off by default
in 3.x and 4.0, but on by default in 4.1. I'll try turning it on
explicitly, and also try to install 4.1.2, and see if that gives me
the crash.
nb. I don't have a concrete theory how this could be related to your
particular crash, but I know that recent GCC complains a lot about
strict aliasing and we've had problems with it in the past.

I don't know how my colleagues feel about it, but I for one am not
even going to think about looking at a bug if the report doesn't
explain how to reproduce it, or at least what the user was trying to
do. There are plenty of bugs that I do know how to reproduce, and
they definitely get priority. Even over a crash.
The more detail that is available, the sooner I will look at it.
It is preferable to use M-x report-xemacs-bug. If you are getting
crashes early enough that that is not available, it is often the case
that using -nw will still allow you to generate and edit the report if
the crash is in redisplay.

As you wish. I have many already parsed issues to look at, at the
moment. I do have some pride; I'll get to the reports that are
unpleasant to even look at, someday. But you can speed that up, if
you like, by doing the parsing for me.
