I just built XEmacs 21.0 "Pyrenean-pre9" from scratch. Aside from a
couple of cockpit errors, it went wonderfully! Everything compiled
fine and the package loading was a dream compared to prior experience.
I selected the load site, and away I ... Ooops. Root has no pgp
configuration. Copy personal pgp configuration to root. (I'm root and
trust all of the same people as root that I do as myself.)
Try again. I defaults to loading from the system. Bad! But easily
fixed.
Selected a download site (again).
Updated the package list. (Success!)
Selected the desired packages (Wonderful! Fast, easy, Two thumbs up!)
Updated all of them! Everything worked flawlessly except me.
I would like to see a mention of Options->Manage Packages->Update
Package Index. If I understand how all of this works, this is a
moderately important function but info does not seem to mention
it. (Or did I just miss it?)
In any case, I am VERY impressed with pui and must say that it
resolves the largest single concern i had about the viability of
21.0. It's still a .0 release and I won't recommend it to everyone, I
suspect I WILL recommend 21.1 to everyone.
Thanks to everyone who worked on fixing the package problems. (Yes, I
see that there are still a few left, but they are minor nits as
compared to the situation in pre4.)
