error at l. 125 is incorrect, as the identifier resolves to the XPoint
xic_spot member of a struct x_frame.
Hm... Please look in config.h and see if HAVE_XIM is defined. Maybe
it's configure breakage.

That works for me too (well, except I hacked my copy with something
similar before I saw this message).
However, after building, I see that xemacs now conveniently uses up
100% CPU doing something, even when I'm not doing anything. Yuck. I
think it's something in my .xemacs stuff because starting this with
-vanilla shows no excess CPU usage.

Can you do
(setq debug-emacs-events 1)
during 100% CPU and see if there's any output on the console you
started XEmacs from? (That is, output while you're not doing anything
inside XEmacs.)

Ok, I'll do this soon. (Using 21.5.5 right now). However, I have
somewhat isolated the problem. It only happens when I'm using gnus
and only after some period of time. I suspect that either the nntp
connection or my imap connection is closed and xemacs is sucking up
cpu pretending to do something about it.

Unfortunately, it doesn't. I grabbed the CVS sources from yesterday
afternoon and rebuilt without problems.
After some period of time, I still get the stream of messages, except
I get alternating events, one for my nntp connection and the other for
my imap connection. Then I go into the gnus server buffer and close
the nntp connection. Only imap event messages are produced. I then
close the imap connection. I get an Lstream internal error message.
Any hints on what to look for to track this down. This is the only
thing preventing me from using 21.5.7 for everything. (I still do,
just not for mail/news.)

You need to step into execute_internal_event, setting a breakpoint at
the case for process_event and see why the conditional branch labeled
"Deactivate network connection" isn't getting triggered.

Sorry! I grabbed the latest CVS sources but when I tarred everything
up to send to work, I sent the wrong tar file. With the correct tar
file, I haven't run into the 100% CPU problem at all.

Just wanted to let you know that this (or some other fix) also fixes a
long standing problem I had with gnus and nntp that started showing up
in b4 or b5. After some period, the nntp connection would be closed.
When I tried to get new news, gnus would complain that it couldn't
open the server. I'd either restart gnus or go to the gnus server
buffer, close the connection, wait some random amount of time, and
open it again.
Now, it works like it used to: gnus automatically reopens the
connection and away I go!
