Hi Bill,
yes this is supposed to be there. It states that the page has been
validated and by what means.
It might not always say "Conform". When you see
"<strong>Not</strong>
conform" after a commit you made, you should consult the commit log
and fix the error you'll find in the log-file.
Those log-file will become less verbose in the future. Martin and I
have expressed that wish already.

How can this look like a bug?
Oh, now I get it: It's outside of the greyish background. Yes, it
doesn't look very beautiful.
Unfortunately it cannot be put under the "This page last mod ..." bit
easily because this is part of a genpage template, and not
art of the individual document.
You are requesting to hide the fact that the XEmacs Site is one of a
few striving to provide correct HTML?
The majority of users visiting the site with IE or Netspace (or even
W3) would miss the fact. Not too many people inspect the HTML source
code (although I always do).
Anyways, if other people share your view, I am open to make that
change, but not quite yet.
Any other comments/problems?
Please keep testing!
Best regards,
Adrian
BTW:
w3-version "WWW 4.0pre.46 1999/10/01 20:22:11" does not seem to honor
the <small>...</small> tag. The text in it displays just as big as
the rest.
These are the text-properties within that text:
