We've received a couple of requests for Windows installers (Innosetup
or MSI would do, there are probably others that would be acceptable).
I'm not in a position to tool up for it myself, so I'm looking for a
volunteer. Of course we'd like to have somebody who would do it for
future releases, too, but a one-off contribution of the time and
expertise would certainly be welcomed.
If you think you might be able to do it in the future, let me say that
I'm hoping to go to a fixed schedule for betas. At current pace of
development every two months, hopefully monthly with a faster pace of
patches in the future. Again, we would like all releases to have an
installer built, but that would be up to the volunteer. Also, there's
no reason it needs to be a single person, it could be a team in
rotation.

Correct me if I'm wrong but we do have an Innosetup installer already?
So you don't have to start from scratch. Right?
So this task would basically then be to build a native XEmacs,
possibly make changes to the installer-script (Innosetup) depending on
the new version and upload it?
There are some essential(!?) packages included with the installer as
well? So these packages need to be handled as well. Are they delivered
as is from the latest sumo or från the latest version in CVS?

If it is somewhat like I have outlined above I think I could swing
it. I have the basic tools for that at least and have used Innosetup
for some other project so why not. It doesn't seem to be that big
burden. (Or am I missing something?)

I download the pre-built packages. Not all the packages from the sumo
are included.
One item to discuss is whether or not to include experimental packages
instead of the released packages. I have recently been building setup
kits including the experimental packages and would do that again
unless I received direction to the contrary.
I won't be able to build the setup kit today - I forgot my Windows
computer is at work. But I'm still planning on building a 21.5.29 kit
no later than Tuesday.

For the beta series, I think this is a good idea, except for the
packages needed for bootstrapping the package system itself (EFS,
dired). For those you should ask Mike Sperber if there are known bugs
that might interfere with updates.

I had a look at your scripts yesterday and saw that you already
supported 21.5. So you are prepared to build the betas as
well. Stephen wanted a volunteer but you seem to do that job already?
