That's why you get the "no prototype" warnings in profile.c. And I also see the signed/unsigned thing for SYNTAX_CODE_FROM_CACHE. (Linux defaults to -O3, though, so I guess that's why.)

That syntax.[ch] code still makes me very nervous. Many of the types/macros referring to "syntax code" really mean "syntax class".
