Problem is, I don't have the old system any longer ... but I
don't
recall any special system settings I might have forgotten during the
switch, you know, sort of standard installation to get things running
fast, never mind warnings in the beginning.
What version of libc does SuSE use? Let me take a wild guess and say
Linux libc5 perhaps?
Only thing I know is that xterms also showed up the locale warnings.
Perhaps, the path to the locale directory (aliases) can't be found,
although /usr/lib/X11/locale looks straight enough.
Do you know how your X11 was compiled? The default XFree86 (and
presumably also RedHat) compile options are not locale-friendly. When
using GNU libc 2.0 I had to build X11 with -DX_LOCALE in order to get
XIM to work. I have not tried rebuilding X11 since `upgrading' to the
advertised more locale-friendly pre-2.1 since so many other things
have broken.
...
I had some of the LC_XXX variables set (LANG and CTYPE I guess) in
my
profile. This bothered ...
Speaking of localization ...
Semi-off topic, but maybe not -- does XEmacs have to do anything
special due to the changeover to the new Euro currency in a few days?
