I wouldn't like to deal with these surprises in a program like XEmacs.
Autoconf caching is a serious pain even in a small program like Wget
where I sometimes had to break its legs just so that some tests in a
loop work.
Users that really want to use the cache (at their own risk) will be
able to do so with the -C / --config-cache option once we have ported our
configure script to Autoconf 2.50.
