Why not? I do that all the time. You can even return to the gdb prompt
with C-g.
I appearantly can't do that on my linux box. gdb complains that it
"Cannot access memory at address 0x40016e08" as soon as I try to run xemacs
within it. BTW, I have other weird problems from time to time, like once in a
while a core produced by XEmacs is in "unreadable format" for gdb, I don't
know why.
These strange problems have only occured on linux in my experience.
