Unfortunately, some OSes still need, for example, pre-crt0.c in
start_files because of the reference to data_start in sysdep.c.
(FreeBSD 4.0-RELEASE, for one.) I suspect the data_start business in
sysdep.c can go away, but haven't had time to investigate.
