Is there such a thing as a line-item veto? The patch did several
things, at least one of which -- fixing a bug in the documentation --
is ridiculous to veto. If someone would actually respond to the
issues I raised in my original message, I can submit a patch fixing
which ever issues people agree should be fixed. I don't think I'll
bother unless I get feedback, because I don't want to put any work
into it if it might get vetoed again.

Changing the default seems somewhat subjective to me and I believe the
current default is more useful.
Obsoleteness should be done using make-obsolete-variable I think.
