smtpmail and delete-process fails

There shouldn't be. Please file a bug either with M-x
report-xemacs-bug or directly to tracker.xemacs.org.
I hope that Mike or Aidan (who know a lot more than me about the
byte-compiler) will try to debug, but if you don't get an expert
opinion in a few days, feel free to ping the list again.
