If you're referring to the Pre-Release packages, those are *versions*,
not *branches*. Those are beta tests for new package releases in the
stable line. They're mostly intended to deal with packaging bugs, and
also to detect show-stoppers. They do not represent a separate branch.
In the case of comint, field, and gdb libraries, there have been a
number of show-stoppers recently. To be honest, they're more unstable
than stable -- but there's still only one branch.
cvs status -v on any package of interest should show this quite clearly.
If you would like to maintain separate branches of packages of special
interest to you in our CVS, that can probably be arranged (Norbert,
what say you?), but since ISTR you have code that can't be released to
the public, that's probably more trouble than it's worth. :-(
