I think checking and (if needed) improving FHS conformance, and making
sure that DESTDIR works, are the most important. Jerry and Ville
might have additional suggestions.
Individuals could contact the XEmacs package maintainer for distros
they use. Or you could look up the packaging scripts for your
favorite distro and check.
I suggest that if you do either, make an issue something like
"Improving distribution-friendliness" on the tracker and describe your
results. If there are bugs that you don't resolve immediately, make a
separate issue for each one, and link to them in the "Improving
distribution-friendliness" master issue (just "issue999" will
automatically create a link).
