Well, I'm running *with* full error-checking in Mule in 21.5, and on
a Pentium II 450MHz with a slow disk it takes about 30 seconds to
enter emacs-devel (about 2000 unread at the moment).
OK. Now try a group with 4000 unread. Does it take 60 seconds or 120
seconds? (Also note that disk speed shouldn't be relevant for nnml,
which reads data from a single .overview file.)
It's not about the raw speed; it's the quadratic characteristic that
is highly undesirable for large-volume groups.
