When I run 21.5.10 under the MacOS X Terminal application, killing a
buffer causes XEmacs to resize itself vertically to half the available
lines in the window. The modeline moves up to halfway up the screen.
Subsequent edits confirm that XEmacs does actually believe the screen
size is halved, thus it's not a transient drawing bug.
Resizing the Terminal window causes XEmacs to resize itself back to the
full screen, but the halving of the screen size is repeatable.
21.4.12 doesn't exhibit this behavior. I haven't tested to see if it
regresses anywhere on the 21.5.x versions.
