Since both JDE and XSLT-process fail, my guess there must be something
wrong with a package they depend on. Since vals is in the definition
generated by semantic, this smells like a semantic issue.

I have no hair left because I've pulled it all out.
I've just synced eieio to version 0.16 and semantic to 1.3.3 and now
JDE and Xslt-Process won't build.[1]
Here's the problem:
JDE
---
!! Symbol's value as variable is void ((vals))
>>Error occurred processing lisp/jde-parse.el:
Symbol's value as variable is void: vals
Done
make: *** [lisp/jde-parse.elc] Error 1
Compilation exited abnormally with code 2 at Tue Feb 20 09:56:52
xslt-process
------------
!! Symbol's value as variable is void ((vals))
>>Error occurred processing lisp/xslt-process.el:
Symbol's value as variable is void: vals
Done
make: *** [lisp/xslt-process.elc] Error 1
Compilation exited abnormally with code 2 at Tue Feb 20 13:36:43
Could somebody please enlighten me as to what's going on here.
Footnotes:
[1] Don't tell me there must be something wrong with the sync, I
noticed the JDE problem _before_ I synced those packages.
