Oh, just about everything.

12. AUCTeX and preview-latex support is a real issue for many
people;
it seems we can't do that without supporting more of the GNU image
API.
Hm? There is a working AUCTeX+preview-latex package from the AUCTeX
site for XEmacs. The main problem here is XEmacs package policies.
Yes, there are shortcomings in AUCTeX+preview-latex for XEmacs, but
the image API is nothing that would strike me as relevant: there are
bug workarounds (some of them rather ridiculous) in place for pretty
every problem. Functionally, the main shortcoming is that it is
impossible to place the cursor _on_ an image: it has to be before or
after it.
Much more important are shortcomings in font lock mode and line
wrapping. Here basically a synch to Emacs 22 would be the sanest
thing to do.
We also need to do something with git, which is just LISP in C
clothing.
Hm?
It is just dying to be given LISP bindings.
contrib/emacs/git.el in the git distribution and vc-git.el in Emacs 22.
