Although libXext did change (and is used by XEmacs), I don't think that
is where the problem is coming from. I had been using XEmacs from the
OpenCSW project since it includes all of the dependencies. And, then I
would rebuild XEmacs from source with the configure options that I
wanted. This would save me from having to build any dependencies. But
OpenCSW replaces some of the system libraries which was causing XEmacs
to be built without Xpm. If I build XEmacs without OpenCSW, then I do
get Xpm support back. And, my workaround is no longer necessary.
However, I'm still not sure exactly what went wrong yet; and it may have
been a combination of factors.
