The problem I had was that I was syncing to buggy Emacs code.
It's
been awhile, so I should take another look and see if the upstream
problems have been resolved. On the other hand, the upstream code is
now GPL v3, so we need to complete our transition to GPL v3 before
such a sync can be released to the public.
Not necessarily. I made a copy of each major Emacs branch before the
transition, and I have them in a git repo (about 600MB). Checkout tag
'latest-GPLv2-compatible'. HEAD^ and HEAD~2 are also probably mostly
OK, but I did see at least one s/version 2/version 3/ in a partial
diff. For fixes since then, you can read the ChangeLog, which often
will tell you enough to localize and fix remaining bugs.
I am now rsyncing a copy to
http://tleeps1.sk.tsukuba.ac.jp/repo.mirror/Emacs
This probably takes forever to clone by http, though. Give it 24
hours and I'll git-pack it by then, which should help.
