Would you please tell us which version you use, describte-variable AUCTeX-version I am not really sure what you want to achieve?? for example do you want to use, say the FoxitReader (a pdf reader which is not configured within auctex)?? Well use customise-option TeX-command-list However be warned, your setting will be then saved either in your .emacs file or in a file of choice (I have set custom-file to custom-init.el) Now the syntax of this list changes periodically from Auctex release to release. Currently xemacs ships a version which is synchronized with auctex 11.84. I hope to release in the coming days a version which is synchronized with the latest version 11.88. If you switch we have to talk again about your setting of TeX-command-list.
