Have you verified that's the issue by recompiling cperl-mode and
discovering that now it doesn't work any more? This smells a

you asked, but I've recompiled cperl-mode.el now
(with byte-compile-file) and got the symptom back.
lot like a build problem somewhere that the elcs do not properly
get rebuilt.
I don't think so. When I upgrade a package, it's recompiled
automatically after download, right? That never helped...
