There's a Forest extension[1] that is designed to handle this. I don't
have any experience with it, and from the extension's web page it
appears to need some work, but my understanding is that the NetBeans
developers are using it.
I have a chunk of the work necessary to move the packages to Mercurial using
the Forest extension sitting on my hard disk; I won’t get to finishing it
soon, though, my priority at the moment is #'query-coding-region and the
related functions. Anyone else with the energy and time is welcome to do it
themselves. My impression from having started the work is that it suits us
perfectly.
