I find it nice to have some fixed text on the left. People could want
for instance to preserve the buffer name from being scrolled out. The idea
came to me almost by accident. However, I'm not strongly attached to it,
I would rather see things like this go in the bottom gutter. That's what
its there for in a sense. But I am biased :)
