More fun with background pixmaps

After learning to set background pixmaps reliably (see my followup to my own post "Background pixmaps cannot be set more than once"), and setting these for some buffers, I noticed the following effect which looks like a bug to me: in a buffer which has a background pixmap set, long lines which wrap to multiple lines onscreen have the correct foreground color only on the last visible line - all wrapped lines (those with the twisted arrow at the end) are shown with a different color - which is black in my normal XEmacs, and dark gray on one started with --vanilla. Any ideas would be appreciated.
