This means Unicode files and streams, folks. The whole shebang (of
course, you may not have fonts for most of it, but that's not an
XEmacs problem).
Due to use of recent features of CCL and the desirable feature of
UTF-8 coding autodetection, a 21.4 XEmacs with Mule is _required_.
UTF-8 autodetection is not configured out of the box, but simple
instructions are provided in the README and Info that come with the
release. AFAIK UTF-16 autodetection is not native to XEmacs 21.4, but
there are some primitive tools included in the package for that.
This is a stopgap measure, until 21.5 has Ben's recent work on Unicode
APIs merged in.
