one thinkg thats making me slightly nervous about gtk is that it is nowadays
mostly run by gnome. Some prominent gnome developpers have repeatedly expressed
their unwillingness to do anything to make their applications network transparent
and I would be less than surprised if network transparency were ditched from
gtk in some future release.
