xemacs -batch -f describe-installation
`xemacs -nw' probably also will work, on the console or in a *Term.

XEmacs is saying it found no usable fonts on your system. I have to
suspect something in the postinst for mplayer-fonts. This would also
explain an mplayer lockup, as X programs do not generally respond well
to lack of fonts. In short, a problem on your system.
If you can start an xterm, then maybe it's something to do with
XEmacs, but I sorta doubt it. (XEmacs probably could respond to this
more gracefully, but historically if you got your system into a state
where this message occurred you were in really big trouble that had
nothing to do with XEmacs.)
What fontpath does `xset q' display?
Does
xlsfonts -fn '-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*'
give any output? (It should give scores or hundreds of lines, but I'm
only interested in the difference between "zero" and "more than
zero")
If it does, try
xfontsel -pattern '-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*'
and see if you can get any of them to display. I bet xfontsel also
locks.
