Yes, "it" should, but "it" refers to the X server or X font server,
not to the application. Specifying less than a fully-specified XLFD
is asking for trouble, as there is no X11 standard for what font from
a given available list will be picked, except for the fontpath. Even
then you can get hosed if the distro does things like alias 75dpi
fonts into the 100dpi path, because the internal font data (which
XEmacs actually uses, isn't that horrible!) will be different from
that specified in the XLFD.
