Right, I agree. This question is about the API for that. F1 f
query-coding-region RET --- should there be a preserve-invalid-sequence
argument? Where?
Ah, on reading more closely we don’t agree on that. I want to do this on
*encoding*, interactively. I don’t want to change the non-interactive
behaviour or the behaviour on decoding.
Replacing an invalid code unit with a marker on decoding is endorsed by the
Unicode people, by the way.
