you're seeing different problems, unrelated to timers.

Um ... no. In fact, I'm not quite sure what you're talking about.
Let's see. It looks like you made that suggestion to Paul Stodghill ,
who was building for cygwin. I'm doing a native build using VC5.0 (my
fault, I should have clarified that in the beginning: Stodghill saw it
first on cygwin; Krause confirmed it on windows native), so I am already
using the version from nt.c. At least I think I am.
