I don't know current status of ESD development, but historically
events and ESD don't mix well. There was a huge race condition in
libesd (see PROBLEMS for details). I would appreciate a report on
whether --with-sound=noesd,native works better.
I think I'm going to disable autodetection of ESD (already disabled in
21.4).
I suggest shifting the ESD code into a standlone program
and letting XEmacs drive it as a subprocess. The event conflicts
go away then.
