It's helpful if you tell us precisely what you did and precisely what
happened.
I have had trouble building on alpha/linux. After dumping the
unexec'd xemacs would fail, acting as if variables had not been
initialized. (Sorry, I forget the precise message).
I was able to build as long as I tell configure:
'--compiler=gcc -B/usr/lib/gcc-lib/alpha-redhat-linux/egcs-2.90.27/'
