When I saved the file it asked me if I wanted to save it as a "plain" file. What's that all about? I answered 'y'. After that php-mode.el byte-compiled OK. Even without my patch to "fix" the problem. I'm very confused. Can anyone tell me what is happening here? Vin, try editing php-mode.el (make a tiny change to a comment or something) in a non-Mule XEmacs and save it.
