Do you have a pointer? Back then, I did quite a bit of work on that
aspect, and I couldn't any way to do with less.
Not offhand, I'll try to dig it up.
IIRC, the main idea was to have an enhanced auto-autoloads in
.../xemacs-packages that would serve to fix up load-path as well, thus
avoiding all the stat'ing down into the tree.
