All this could be worked out, I suppose, but what is the gain to be
expected from that?
Given that among different versions of either Emacs or XEmacs,
different things get solved using macro expansion, .elc compatibility
is pretty much a myth even between versions with compatible byte code.
So if you want to be on the safe side, byte compile with the installed
binary.
