I have access to i386-pc-solaris2.8 and sparc-sun-solaris2.7, and there are no dumping problems on these platforms (with gcc or cc). I don't think anyone has reported problems on i386-pc-solaris2.7, so I am inclined not to change something that has worked for many years.
