My memory is weak when it comes to auctex since I don't use it myself
but didn't we fix the package build for 11.84? Couldn't you just try
to use that as a basis for building 11.87 in the package tree? Maybe a
diff between 11.84 and 11.87 of the upstream Makefile could be a good
starting point in what we need to adjust for the package tree.
