Actually it is sufficient to have
/* ab (cd) ef */
at the _start_ of the buffer. Anything in between point-min and /*
will keep the problem from occuring.
I assume the bug is due to an optimization in font-lock.c, but I am
not sure how to fix it.
I cannot reproduce it in 20.4 and or the 20.0-mule that comes with Sun
Workshop.
