No, and no. Obviously a file-descriptor leak is a very bad thing in a
text editor. What you suggest potentially creates such a leak. As I
say, if someone who understands that code wants to work on it, it
sounds like a good idea to me. But I don't qualify and the people who
I know are interested in that kind of thing are not currently active,
so the realistic answer is "probably not soon."
What is your application? It would certainly help if we knew what we
were missing!
