I think it might be a problem with your Athena widgets. Can you
re-compile using different dialog widgets, say 'lucid' for example?
(--with-dialogs=lucid).

I'm not seeing this on GNU/Linux 2.4.17 in either XEmacs 21.4.6
(non-Mule) or XEmacs 21.5.3 (Mule).
