 Huh? The standard convention is to use -internal for C level
 functions that are not supposed to be used directly. 
But if I understand Oscar correctly, the users who want the
lower-level functionality *are* supposed to use the C functions.  So
they shouldn't be called "-internal".
The -internal stuff is something you *never* ought to want to use.
