Really? On my wife's German-localized Mac, they're called the same. It
appears the Finder displays them differently.

We could probably look for them if the searches at the usual
locations fail. Would that be reasonable?
No, I don't think that's better for anybody. I would rather that the
default be a single package root for the system and one for the user.
If we decide to conform to Mac practice and have Carbon search in
/Library and ~/Library, we shouldn't search in $prefix or ~/.xemacs at
all, by default.
I will say that if you change it, I promise to completely ignore all
bug reports about it. ;-)
