GNU Emacs' rect.el

Sounds like total crock to me. Rectangles are hopelessly broken
across variable glyph sizes. I don't see how blowing away
wide characters is a fix, unless you consider a lathe to be an
acceptable solution for putting a square peg into a round hole.
