Hi,
reporting strange behaviour of xemacs 21.4.12 in
comp.emacs.xemacs, Stephen J. Turnbull told me to send you
the output of
M-x describe-installation
generated
(a) with SuSE 8.2 binaries
(b) with my self-compiled xemacs
Both are version 21.4.12.
The problem I reported in comp.emacs.xemacs was as follows:
I'm used to german keyboard layout. So I have to press
AltGr-ß to get a "\". For years this was no problem for
xemacs, but after migration to SuSE 8.2, when I press the
key AltGr for the first time after I launched xemacs, the
Backtrace-buffer pops up, xemacs beeps and lies
Signaling: (undefined-keystroke-sequence
[#<keypress-event iso-level3-shift>])
This *is* a lie, since after switching back from backtrace
to text-buffer, the next time I press AltGr-ß, xemacs gives
me the "\", beeping (sigh), but without popping up the
Backtrace-buffer again.
The problem is *not* showing up, when I install the binaries
delivered with SuSE 8.2.
To compile my own version I took sources from
xemacs.org,
which I had downloaded some month ago to use them with SuSE
8.0 without problems.
My intention to compile my own version was to get the
GTK-Wigdets (better open-file dialog etc.).
Enclosed are the installation-files from SuSE-version and my
own compilation.
Sincerely -- Olaf Meltzer
