Yes.
But from home, using the t-online.de ISP, the from line seems to be
ignored.
I guess your ISP removes the From and inject it again with information
it knows is correct, some ISP do this. I'd suggest setting up
sendmail (or simply using the installation already present, if you are
on any modern and properly installed and configured system) on your
local machine if this is a problem.
