Stack overflow: Stack overflow in regexp matcher

Hi. The last couple of days I have been getting this message from XEmacs: "Stack overflow: Stack overflow in regexp matcher" Usually when checking for new email in Gnus. If I just try (g) again, the message doesn't re-appear. It is rather curious. Has anyone else experienced this? I don't think I have changed my Gnus-configuration recently.
