Do you mean zap "-u" or not? "-u" should stay , it is being used.
The problem is that things like gnus should be able to locate
~joe/.gnus if -u joe is used. It currently uses init-file-user for
that.
if you mean that the startup code should pre-compute
user-init-directory to be a true & full path then I agree.
