RE: Windows 21.4.5 Ready for release.
- Some packages are quite old, some very new:
Current jde: 2.29; downloaded 1.30
Current psgml: 1.22; downloaded 1.23
The XEmacs package version number may well be different to that of the
official version. For instance XEmacs jde 1.30 is actually. jde 2.2.7.1
- Re: cygwin, a usage note would be nice (pick one; not both):
xemacs-i586-pc-win32-21.4.5 and
xemacs-i686-pc-cygwin-21.4.5 each took 7+ minutes
It should do this anyway when you pick a download type.
Results in three folders: cygwin32, packages, win32;
with zip files in first and last.
Unzipped, gives standard dirs: etc, i586-pc-win32, info, lisp,
and Problems (2001-04-12).
So I think this is your problem - you must use the installer to install the
packages otherwise your registry entries will not be setup correctly. If you
unzip things yourself you will have the problems you report.
(1) (initialization/error) An error has occurred while loading
c:\.xemacs\init.elc:
Cannot open load file: paren
The term 'paren' does not occur (outside of a comment) in
my .xemacs/init.el.
