I gave up (for now anyway.) I found an archive "Cygwin Time Machine"
out there with snapshots of old versions of Cygwin. It seemed
promising but I couldn't get it to install things properly. (Errors in
the post processing step resulting in a non functional configuration.)
So before spending to much time on it I abandoned the idea.
